Head back to school in style this year! Kelley Blue Book has just released a list of their favorite back-to-school cars of 2017, and as many Hampton Roads drivers might expect, Honda’s vehicles were among the most highly praised. The Honda Fit, the Honda Civic, and the Honda HR-V were the first, third, and fourth-ranked options on KBB’s list,* and once you’ve seen what they have to offer, you won’t be surprised that they’ve become favored choices with students everywhere.
Choosing the Perfect Honda
Just what is it that makes the Fit, the Civic, and the HR-V so suitable for student life? For starters, we can point to these vehicles’ affordability, their excellent fuel economy, and their voluminous, flexible interiors. The 2017 Fit, the Civic Sedan, and the HR-V are priced, respectively, at $16,090 MSRP (for LX 6MT models),* $18,740 MSRP (for LX 6MT models),* and $19,570 MSRP (for LX 2WD 6MT models).** When equipped with a continuously variable transmission, the Fit gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.*** When the Civic Sedan LX is equipped with the same feature, it gets more-than-respectable ratings of an EPA-estimated 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway.*** The Honda HR-V 2WD CVT, with an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway,*** doesn’t quite reach the high standards the Fit and the Civic, but since it’s available with Real-Time All-Wheel Drive in its baseline LX trim, it might be a better choice for your student. On top of all this, both the Honda Fit and the HR-V have been equipped with a 60/40-split second-row Magic Seat that can be folded into a variety of configurations—providing your student with tons of easily accessible cargo space when they need it. Although the Civic Sedan doesn’t possess this feature, the Civic is also available in a hatchback design that should provide more than enough cargo space for any road trip.
Although it wasn’t included in KBB’s list of the best back-to-school cars, the Honda CR-V also deserves a little attention. The CR-V just earned one of the top spots on U.S. News and World Report’s list of the Best New Cars for Teens, and like those vehicles described above, it offers plenty of cargo space and great fuel economy. What’s more, the CR-V offers the entire Honda Sensing safety package on every trim except its baseline LX, making it perfect for younger drivers who are still learning the ways of the road.
