Safety Features of the 2019 Honda Fit

Safety Features of the 2019 Honda Fit

You don’t have to break the bank to get all the safety features you desire in an exciting subcompact car. According to the experts at U.S. News & World Report, 2018’s Fit was one of the “Best Cars for the Money,” and once you’ve had the chance to explore the safety features of the 2019 Honda Fit, you’ll have no trouble seeing why! Honda Sensing is available right from the start on the baseline LX trim level, and it even comes standard on upper level trims. When equipped with this package, the Honda Fit is one of the safest hatchbacks that the drivers of Hampton Roads can buy: the NHTSA* has awarded the Honda Fit a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating.

Driver Assistance and Honda Sensing

These days, the most advanced safety features work alongside the driver to provide an extra line of defense against collisions. In this year’s Honda Fit, the Honda Sensing package is offered as an option in every trim level—and it’s standard on the EX trim and up! With Honda Sensing, you’ll gain access to:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking: The Forward Collision Warning and the CMBS have the potential to eliminate dangerous frontal collisions. Cameras and radar work constantly to detect objects in your path. The FCW beeps and flashes when it senses danger, and if this warning isn’t sufficient, the CMBS can bring you to a complete stop.

  • Lane Guidance: The Honda Sensing package includes a Lane Departure Warning, a Lane Keeping Assist System, and a Road Departure Mitigation System. The first of these features alerts you whenever you’re in danger of crossing a road line without your turn signal. The LKAS and the RDM use cameras and sensors to keep track of your laneand keep you centered if you start to stray.

  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Adaptive Cruise Control can take the stress out of any commute! When you activate the system, you’ll be obliged to set your preferred speed and follow distance simultaneously. Like a traditional cruise control system, it works to keep you as close to your preferred speed as possible. Unlike those other systems, it can also adjust your speed automatically, bringing you into the natural flow of traffic, and speeding you up again when the road clears.

  • Honda LaneWatch: On top of all this, both the EX and EX-L Fit trims have been equipped with the Honda LaneWatch security system. The LaneWatch system links a small sideview mirror-mounted camera to an easy-to-see screen situated above your central console. When you activate your righthand turn signal, the feed from this camera shows you a live picture of your blind spot. Staying out of trouble has never been easier!

Active and Passive Standard Features

Every 2019 Honda Fit has been outfitted with a wide array of Active and Passive safety features. Active features work to improve your visibility and your ability to respond to changes in road conditions, while passive features reduce the risks posed by unavoidable collisions. Each of the features listed here comes standard on every Fit trim level:

  • Vehicle Stability Assistance: Vehicle Stability Assistance with Traction Control makes it easier to keep your balance when you’re making a tight turn or going around a curve. The system automatically adjusts the rate at which your inside wheels turn in order to maximize your traction.

  • Seat Belt and Airbag Coverage: The Fit has been designed with universal three-point seatbelts, automatic tensioning and reminders for front-seated passengers, and a system of Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. You’ll also gain Advanced Front Airbags, SmartVent Front Side Airbags, and Side Curtain Airbags with a Rollover Sensor.

  • Multi-Angle Rearview Camera: Maneuvering through tight spaces is easier than ever. Drivers who choose the Fit can take advantage of a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera that offers Wide Angle, Normal, and Top Down views.

  • Advanced Compatibility Engineering: Every Fit has been built with Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure, and as a result, the pint-sized Fit can stand up to dangerous collisions. ACE Body Structure uses a combination of rigid and collapsible components to improve passenger safety.

  • Daytime Running Lights: Great visibility can give you more time to respond to dangers of all kinds. Daytime Running Lights come standard on every Fit, and with a Continuously Variable Transmission equipped, Automatic High Beam Headlights are available as an upgrade. These headlights come standard on the EX and EX-L trims.

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Your tires are your connection to the road, and it’s important to keep them in good condition. With the Fit’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System, you’ll always know the condition of your tires.
