Just before 2016 reached its close, Honda reported some exciting sales news to wrap up the year.
For the fourth consecutive year, Honda has reigned as the automaker with the most popular car, SUV, and minivan models in the marketplace, and the company blazes forward into 2017 bearing the title of fastest-growing automaker in terms of retail sales.
Individual Vehicle Sales
The Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, and Honda Odyssey have each brought prestige to the Honda brand for 2016 as the best-selling vehicles in their segments in terms of sales to individual buyers during the 2016 year.
According to advance year-end retail sales statistics released by Honda in late December, the Civic was poised to post the all-time best sales of its entire 44-year history as a nameplate, making the Civic the best-selling car among individual American car buyers.
As of the end of December, the Accord was set to post leading sales figures in the midsize segment for the fourth year in a row.
The Honda CR-V was positioned to further solidify its place as the best-selling SUV in America for more than 20 years, posting sales gains for the seventh consecutive year.
For its seventh straight year, the Honda Odyssey reigned as the best-selling minivan among retail consumers.
The Civic, CR-V, and Accord were further poised to be the three highest retail-selling automobiles in the industry, after full-size trucks. These three vehicle nameplates have also boasted combined 2016 sales of more than 1 million units, making 2016 the fifth consecutive year these models have achieved that feat.
In all, Honda Division sales were up 4.5% as of the end of November 2016, with 1,333,253 cars and light trucks sold under the Honda banner for the year, and Honda was also poised to post its third consecutive year of record sales.
Going strong into 2017, Honda is geared up to continue this momentum of success as the company prepares to release a newly redesigned Odyssey minivan; Si Coupe, Si Sedan, and Type R variations of the Civic, which is in the midst of its 10th generation as a nameplate; brand-new Clarity Battery Electric and Clarity Plug-In Hybrid models; and more.
